I had originally been planning to perform my entire “Meditations on the Mystery of the Holy Trinity” to celebrate the 100th year of Messiaen’s anniversary (next week! How exciting!) which didn’t pan out, for which I now find myself grateful. But there was a consolation recital, so to speak: a combined Messiaen centenary recital just yesterday night on which I played 3 pieces (that I chose yesterday morning by drawing lots!) It was a really good recital in a really beautiful church and acoustic, although the organ lacks “oomph”.

This is like the most awesome thing ever: who ever heard of a Book Festival? Anyway, the Book Festival has justt about consumed Mount Vernon: there are tents everywhere in all 4 directions along the Park and it’s just amazing: I had gyros yesterday, and today I went for some poetry/book readings and all and it was awesome! And there are so many great books (used!!!) going for a bargain that I would buy if I just had space.

Kyrie eleison.

Everyday I wake up and thank God that I’m at Peabody and Johns Hopkins. I’m loving (when I’m not hating it) what I’m doing it and it just seems so complete. It’s intense but I love what I’m doing on both campuses and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Music provides the necessary respite from studying, and studying from music, and everything is really fitting in very well even though I’m having to be very disciplined with my time.

Well, amidst all that perfection today was a distinctly inperfect day. Woke up with my arm overextended (and really hurting) so that I can’t straighten it. And then my watch strap broke. And then my watch stopped. And then Ann got locked out of her dorm so my printouts for my writing class almost didn’t come. Thank God not every day is like that.

Kyrie eleison.
